TasRail confirms that a derailment occurred on the Burnie rail line, approximately three kilometres east of Penguin, just after midnight this morning. No one was injured in the incident. TasRail is working co-operatively with the Tasmanian Fire Service to manage an environmental spill that occurred as a result of the derailment. The derailed train was en route to Hobart and included in its cargo were two Intermediate Bulk Containers carrying a total of 1400 litres of Potassium hydroxide and four x 200 litre drums containing a combination of Potassium hydroxide and Sodium hydroxide.
